Kennedy was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last month. (June 2)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Less than two weeks after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, Senator Ted Kennedy has decided on a course of treatment. Kennedy will have surgery this morning at Duke University Medical Center. Surgery for the 76-year-old is set to start at nine Eastern time this morning … and last some six hours. The Massachusetts Senator is expected to stay at the North Carolina facility for the next week, then return to Massachusetts for radiation and chemotherapy treatments. It was back on May 17th that Kennedy had a seizure at his Hyannis Port home. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, then a couple days later — the cancer diagnosis. In a prepared statement released this morning, the senator and his wife said they consulted with experts around the country and decided that surgery was the best option. He added he looks forward to returning to the U-S Senate and help elect Barack Obama to be the country’s next president. Ted Kennedy is the second longest serving U-S Senator, first assuming office in 19-62.
