Sweets and Teeth – an Ode to Having a Sweet Tooth
Lyrics and Music by Ross Oates and Alex McIlvaine
Sweets and Teeth is an educational song that warns the views of the dangers of not properly taking care of your teeth. In the song and animation “Uncle Ross” with his pet bird “ginger” discuss some of the current problems with the way people eat. These problems include but are not limited too:
– Binge eating
– Lack of exercise
– Junk food
It includes suggestions of how to overcome these bad habits. Which includes the proper way to brush your teeth. Angle your toothbrush 45 degrees toward your gums make small circles. In fact, a little dental secret: brush first with toothbrush that does not have any toothpaste on it, then add the tooth paste and brush a second time.
You should spend about 3:00mins brushing – which just happens to be the length of this song!
Dental terminology used that you might not understand.
Edentulous – the lack of teeth / missing teeth
Gingivitis – inflammation of the gum tissue
Periodontitis – inflammation of the gum tissue accompanied by bone loss
The song starts out in a country style, but picks up at the end with a little fun rap. The rap is comprised of all the typical “negative body image” terms used to describe parts of the body the appear when we over indulge in the sweet foods. See if you can memorize the rap!
Remember
To eat right, exercise and take care of your oral health – brush 2x a day, floss 1x a day!
