Soothe sore gums and lessen the fussiness that often accompanies a teething infant.

Step 1: Rub gums
Rub your baby’s gums with a clean finger or a damp washcloth. The pressure helps to ease your baby’s discomfort.

Step 2: Offer teething ring
Offer your baby a teething ring. A cold spoon or teething biscuit will work as well.

Step 3: Cool off gums
Apply a cool washcloth to your baby’s gums, or offer chilled foods such as applesauce or yogurt if your baby has moved on to solid foods.

Step 4: Prevent skin irritation
Prevent skin irritation by drying any drool on your baby’s face, especially the chin.

Tip
Put a clean towel or blanket under your baby’s head to keep the sheet dry.

Step 5: Use pain reliever
Use an over-the-counter pain reliever to help manage pain. Look for acetaminophen or ibuprofen products made especially for infants. Never use aspirin.

Did You Know?
The ancient Egyptians used coral teething rings.
