A veneer is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth to improve aesthetics.

Porcelain veneers are the most common types of veneers, as they best recreate the look of natural teeth while possessing strength.

You may have heard of the brand of porcelain veneers called Lumineers that is marketed as a very thin veneer that requires no cutting of teeth. The truth is, any cosmetic dentist who works with a high quality dental laboratory can produce natural-looking and thin veneers.

The issue of whether teeth have to be cut for veneer placement depends on their inclination and how crowded or spaced out the existing teeth are. If your natural set of teeth protrude outward, then placing veneers over them without removing any tooth structure will make them appear too bulbous and bulky.
