Hello! This was a assignment for my school (Keystone) i thought you guys might find it useful so here it is:

Axolotl
The Axolotl only natively dwells in Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco in central Mexico. Not many other water animals live in the lake, though there are 15 species of ducks, egrets, pelicans and another bird called kingfisher. There are not many plants underwater, only seagrass and others similar to it. The ground is mostly mud, with rocks and some sand, also it is dark down there. The year round climate is 14° to 32°. Axolotls eat worms, insects, smaller fish and almost anything that fits in their mouth. The Axolotls enemies are mostly birds (storks and herons) but also tilapia and carp. Axolotls reach sexual maturity between five months and several years, it depends on the food and how often you feed it, also the water temperature and the conditions play a role. Breeding seasons are between December and June. The mating process works like this: A male excites the female by dancing a salamander dance, when the female accepts the relationship, she signals the male to lay down spermatophore and he will guide her so that she is in position to pick up the sperm packet. The female lays about 1000 eggs. The embryos look like a ball and slowly take shape of a axolotl, after 14 days the exalts hatch.

Axolotls live in the deep, dark and muddy lake of Xochimilco where the like to hide behind rocks and seagrass, they like to stay on on one place, they don’t travel like salmon. The Axolotl can be brown to black or pink to white, the most useful color is black because it is a better camouflage in the dark mud. The axolotl can stay underwater for a very long time but it has to breathe after roughly 15 minutes, this is a good feature because it is an easy prey when it is on the surface. The axolotl can’t really defend itself because it doesn’t have claws or strong teeth or a sting. Though a very special feature of the axolotl is that it can regrow body parts.

The axolotl is very fast underwater, this helps avoiding enemies. Axolotls are calm creatures, they don’t „hunt“ prey, they wait until its close enough to their mouth and then snatch it at an incredible speed. Thanks to their calmness and camouflage, prey don’t really notice them and thats when they strike. The axolotl uses a dance to impress a female, dancing is about the only way to impress a female when you are a salamander. The female lays hundreds of eggs in the seagrass and then leave. Axolotls don’t stay with their young because they get carnivorous since they eat anything that fits in their mouth. This adaption is one of the most [...]
